Charlotte Moss joined Century Furniture to present 25 years of creating a garden and influences along the way. Charlotte shared key lessons culled from her time spent exploring gardens around the world, reading about them and simply enjoying her own.  in her words, "Gardens have a way of getting under your skin."  Century Furniture hosted a book signing and luncheon following the presentation to help celebrate the Washington Design Center grand opening.

Schumacher + Carolyn Englefield

Along with Veranda, Schumacher hosted Carolyn Englefield, Veranda's Interiors Editor, during a book signing of Carolyn's book Veranda: A Passion for Living. The book is a stunning compendium of Carolyn's 13 years as a European correspondent for American design magazines. With her unique access to Europe's most celebrated designers, architects and antiques dealers, she offers an insider's view of homes in Belgium, England, France, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden.

Schumacher and Veranda hosted a luncheon for those getting their books signed by Carolyn during the Washington Design Center's grand opening festivities.

American Interior Decoration

The Hearst Design Group Editorial Director, Newell Turner, opened the Washington Design Center grand opening festivities last week with a presentation on American Interior Decoration: Three Views. The professions of interior design and magazine publishing have had a symbiotic relationship for many decades. Some of the earliest modern magazine, in particular House Beautiful, started publication as the profession of interior design was emerging in the late 1800s out of various related trades. Over the last 30 years, as access and appreciation for decorating have grown by leaps and bounds, Elle Decor and Veranda magazines joined the scene with their own unique perspectives.  Newell Turner presented an inside look at the breadth and diversity of great design in American today.

Here are just a few of the photos from his presentation.  Please feel free to post your own photos and tag them with #WDCGrandOpening #NewellTurner
