On a crisp morning in late January, the STARK crew ate breakfast at The Golden Pear, on Main Street in the village of Southampton. The sleepy goings-on of an off-season summer town swirled slowly about as we prepared for the upcoming photo shoot. Rugs were being delivered at nine-thirty, flowers at ten, and the photographer would arrive around the same time. Each of the ten rugs coming was a bona fide work of art, but the real star of this shoot would be the location – the crown jewel in a collective community of six mansions named “Olde Towne,” from award-winning design-build specialist Kean Development and decorated by AD 100 Design firm Ingrao Inc.

As the group moved inside and began to set up, the team began guessing in hushed tones at the sticker price we found out later, everyone was low. The asking price was $45 million, and the behemoth structure clocked in somewhere around 24,000 square feet. Nearly a dozen bedrooms, two kitchens, a rooftop putting green, infinity edge pool, tennis court, screening room, bowling alley – put a large check mark next to all of those, and a lot more. There’s even a fireplace in one of the bathrooms.

For House Beautiful March 2016, Designer Garrow Kedigan took readers inside his Montreal home where he pays homage to Canada's fur-trading history with Antilocarpa carpet from STARK to create a dramatic stair runner. This iconic animal pattern is also featured in his sitting room. "It's a great pattern, contemporary but still classic," says Kedigian. Trim painted in glossy Benjamin Moore Black plays up the home's architectural details. Reproductions of artworks by Géricault are featured throughout creating a “Home That's Not Afraid of Dark Colors” as the article’s title proclaims. 

Garrow was born and raised in Montreal, Canada but after completing his formal education, moved to Boston, MA where he gained six years of experience at the renowned offices of interior designer William Hodgins. He then moved to New York City and after working for several design powerhouses in New York, he established his own design firm in 2001.

Garrow’s classically trained architectural background is the foundation for most of his interior design work, stating, “The architecture is what sets the tone and tells you what you need to do with a space.”

In 2013, his Park Avenue apartment which was formerly the home of Fred Astaire was also featured in House Beautiful magazine including the library below, featuring a custom Greek key rug from STARK. Garrow honed the classic elegance of this prewar apartment, while restoring it to a former era of glory, and simultaneously infusing a contemporary undertone. 

"I wanted to have a library before that notion becomes extinct," said Kedigian, "but the shell had to feel contemporary and fun." The solution was a vibrant custom palette in a Fine Paints of Europe Brilliant finish. Curtains of Clarence House Elettra flank a sofa in Scalamandré's Variegation herringbone. A Louis XV fauteuil (a gift from Kedigian's grandmother) retains its original blue velvet, and a neoclassical side chair is updated with Glant Liquid Leather.

Stark Sapphire represents highest level of carpet production available in the world today with a great many styles that are either 100% silk or a silk/wool blend. This collection will be made available through Stark's "trade protected" showrooms nationwide and the "trade exclusive" section of StarkCarpet.com. Stock sizes will range from 6x9 to 12x15. Custom orders and services will also be available to design professionals across the collection.

Further showcasing the Sapphire line is STARK’s “Bring Your Room to Life” advertising campaign which continues to run in national and regional magazines including Elle Décor, Luxe, Architectural Digest, CT Cottages & Gardens, Modern Luxury DC and many more. STARK DC currently has several Sapphire rugs in stock in addition to samples that can be used for custom orders.
